Thunder and lightning occur same time and sky become light full. When the processing of making cloud in sky there is so many things in air beside water particle dust particle also on the air. At high the temperature is so low so water vapor become ice particle and friction of dust on that ice particle it charged by negative charge (-) like :- rubbing comb on hair and attracting a piece of paper cause rubbing comb on hair make comb negative (-) charge and paper has positive (+) so it attract.
So cloud charged of –ve charges when it became so heavy of –ve charges it get grounded. When –ve charge and +ve charge get meet it become neutral. The earth there is so many things they are charge with positive things like +ions, metal, minerals etc.
When the charge become so heavy it wanted to be grounded but that charges need medium to pass on ground
Best medium of passing charge on ground is solid. But there is not such things the only one way to get ground is air. It make air as medium to get grounded. When it pass the air make a large of resistance. It passes using air atoms and atoms charged and we see many flashing lights on air that is call lightning and the atoms of air get friction and moments it produce noises that is thunders
